A novel role for the mineralocorticoid receptor in glucocorticoid driven vascular calcification.
This study suggests that in mouse VSMCs, corticosterone acts through the MR to induce pro-calcification effects, and identifies 11β-HSD-inhibition as a novel potential treatment for vascular calcification. PMID: 27153999 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor for macular oedema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion.
CONCLUSIONS: The available RCT evidence suggests that treatment of MO secondary to BRVO with anti-VEGF improves visual and anatomical outcomes at six and 12 months. PMID: 32633861 [PubMed - in process]

Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor combined with intravitreal steroids for diabetic macular oedema.
CONCLUSIONS: Combination of intravitreal anti-VEGF plus intravitreal steroids does not appear to offer additional visual benefit compared with monotherapy for DMO; at present the evidence for this is of low-certainty. There was an increased rate of cataract development and raised intraocular pressure in eyes treated with anti-VEGF plus steroid versus anti-VEGF alone. Patients were exposed to potential side effects of both these agents without reported additional benefit. The majority of the evidence comes from studies of bevacizumab and triamcinolone used as primary therapy for DMO. There is limited evidence from studies u...

Pulmonary arterial hypertension in a patient with multiple myeloma during carfilzomib treatment: in search of better management.
CONCLUSION: The mechanism responsible for cardiac and vascular events during carfilzomib therapy is unclear. This case report highlights that it is important to define at baseline the appropriate screening of patients undergoing carfilzomib therapy with specific monitoring and symptom management and that future large prospective controlled studies are needed to define the correct monitoring strategy in refractory and relapsed multiple myeloma and the potential mechanism of vascular events. Coexistence of bone and vascular disturbances in patients with endogenous glucocorticoid excess
CONCLUSION: In endogenous glucocorticoid excess, bone and vascular diseases frequently coexisted, and deteriorated bone quality, not bone loss, was related to arterial stiffness. Thus, glucocorticoid excess may perturb the bone-vascular axis.PMID:36035657 | PMC:PMC9398912 | DOI:10.1016/j.bonr.2022.101610

Autonomous Cortisol Secretion is associated with worse arterial stiffness and vascular fibrosis in primary aldosteronism - a cross-sectional study with follow-up data
CONCLUSION: The presence of ACS in PA patients is associated with worse arterial stiffness and vascular remodeling.PMID:35551115 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-21-1157

Resistance training prevents the reduction of insulin-mediated vasodilation in the mesenteric artery of dexamethasone-treated rats.
This study evaluated whether resistance training (RT) could prevent glucocorticoid-induced vascular changes. Wistar rats were divided into groups: control (CO), dexamethasone (DEX), and Dexamethasone+RT (DEX+RT). On the eighth week, dexamethasone was administered in the DEX and DEX+RT groups. Thereafter, the animals were sacrificed and blood samples were used to assess the lipid profile, glucose and insulin. Vascular reactivity to insulin and phenylephrine (Phe) were evaluated. The DEX+RT group presented an improvement in the lipid profile, fasting glucose, and insulin levels compared to the DEX group. In addition, vasodil...

Sakuranetin reverses vascular peribronchial and lung parenchyma remodeling in a murine model of chronic allergic pulmonary inflammation.
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: Sakuranetin had anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, preventing vascular and distal parenchyma changes in this experimental model of asthma. PMID: 27425653 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Antenatal Dexamethasone Exposure Impairs the High-Conductance Ca2+-Activated K+ Channels via Epigenetic Alteration at Gene Promoter in Male Offspring.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings showed a profound and long-term impact of antenatal dexamethasone exposure on vascular BK via an altered epigenetic pattern from fetal stage to adulthood, advancing understanding of prolonged adverse effects and mechanisms of antenatal glucocorticoids exposure on vascular health in offspring. The Intervention of Nano-targeted Drugs & amp; Angioplastryin Treatment and Prevention of Vascular Restenosis and its Influence on Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 in Lower Extremity Angiopathy
In conclusion, MCP-1 is one of the major causes of lower extremity angiopathy. The nano-targeted drugs and angioplastry can raise the expression level of MCP-1 in patients with lower extremity angiopathy. The experimental results had a high application value and the nano-targeted drugs & angioplastry can be promoted clinically.PMID:35988189 | DOI:10.14715/cmb/2022.68.3.38
